TESL 0170: Lesson Plans

***Please note that my reflections, post teaching are in the main blog.

November 2/20

This lesson has a variety of activities and begins with a humorous wordless video about someone making a sandwich. Students will use the information to generate an activity with a partner. Students will be given the opportunity to write down some steps to a simple snack and then to share their work first with a partner for practice and then with the large group.

I created reference sheets for students to use when they did their work and also to place in the resource section of their portfolios. For extra practice they were given a link to a YouTube video that focused on the sounds 'st' and 'th'.

November 5/20

This lesson will help to solidify some of the work that students were introduced to: ordinal and cardinal numbers, prepositions and giving directions. It will be important to review some of the work that the students did the day before and to practice the 'th' and 'st' sounds.

For the introduction, to review the prepositions, I used a map of Canada as a teaching tool to re-introduce the provinces and territories to students.  Speaking and listening are the focus for this lesson.

November 12/20

This will be an interesting lesson to teach as it is an assessment lesson. The materials are not the best to work with and so I have made some adjustments, adding a compass, changing some misspelled or incorrect information and being sure to add vocabulary that will be new to the students.

I have asked the instructor to email the information to the students in advance so that they can have everything prepared for the assessment task. I have also asked her to be sure to let students know that they will be on camera so that they are prepared.
